Father Manjón 1846-1923 was the founder of the Ave Maria Schools. This walk was built in 1609 and was called Paseo de la Puerta de Guadix, referring to the same door located at the end of the walk, which led to this town. The fountain that occupies the center of this open space was also built in the same year.
Although its official name is currently Paseo del Father Manjón,for the aforementioned reason, from the 19th century it began to be called Walk of the Sad,so nicknamed for being the place traveled by funeral courtships in the direction of the San José cemetery, located behind La Alhambra, on the hill called Sabika.

The Albaicin (a district of Granada) was directly connected to the Alhambra by a fortified bridge called Puente del Cadí – the “bridge of the judge”. All that is left of it today is the stump of a tower on the left bank and part of its single arch. It was built by the Moors in 1055.

Mariano Fernández Santiago, was born in 1824, known as “Chorrojumo”, he was one of the most significant characters in Granada in the 19th century
The nickname, the result of the contraction of “smoke jet”, came from his trade as a blacksmith.

Finally able to travel again so here’s the first contribution of many to come. Departing from Perth, Western Australia on the Qantas direct to Heathrow flight and a connecting flight to Barcelona. Two weeks in Spain and then on to four weeks in the UK.

Better known by his pen name Serafí Pitarra, Frederic Soler was a Catalan playwright who wrote over a hundred plays as well as several books of poetry. The white marble monument which was erected in his memory stands directly opposite Barcelona’s oldest theatre, Teatre Principal.
It was constructed for the Exposición Universal de Barcelona (1888) in honor of Columbus’ first voyage to the Americas. The monument serves as a reminder that Christopher Columbus reported to Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand V in Barcelona after his first trip to the new continent.

Major changes to Barcelona’s water supply in the second half of the 19th century brought a huge rise in the number of drinking fountains. Against this backdrop, fountains in the style of Paris’s emblematic Wallace fountains became part of the city’s heritage.

San Nicolò di San Felice is a deconsecrated Roman Catholic church located on via San Felice 41 in Bologna, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. Bombardment during World War two caused sufficient damage to close the brick walled structure with a front portico.
A church at the site is documented since the 12th-century, when it was located outside the city walls.

Translation
“This cross, an extraordinary sign of human redemption, erected by the citizens of Bologna when the church was just being born in defense of the embraced faith, then very often ruined by the ravages of time and each time restored in its original place, Vespasiano Grimaldi, when it was Archbishop of Bologna Alfonso Paleotti, at the beginning of the last century, placed it in the middle of this street above the bridge, so that it could resist more firmly.
However, this bridge having been destroyed to widen the road, when Girolamo Grimaldi, cardinal of the Holy Roman Church with the title of Santa Balbina, Prospero Lambertini, cardinal of the Holy Roman Church with the title of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, Bologna, prince of the Holy Roman Empire, took care that the same cross was affixed under this portico on the wall of this sacred building and blessed it with a solemn rite and graciously granted one hundred days of indulgence to all those who prayed devoutly in front of it and who formulated their vows to Almighty God for the salvation of the country.
